La Nina seemed to treat Louisiana and the rest of the Southeast United States like a punching bag. Its three-year barrage of body blows has come to an end, but left behind a lot of scars from hurricanes and tornadoes among other weather disasters.Experts caution that attributing any single event to La Nina or its better-known cousin, El Nino, is difficult as they pronounced Thursday that the La Nina weather phenomenon has come to an end. But they can say generally that tornadoes in the Southeast and hurricanes are more frequent during La Nina. Here are some examples of the 44 different billion-dollar extremes of nasty weather during La Nina’s reign:1. VANCOUVER — Former judge Mary Ellen Turpel-Lafond says she’s satisfied in her “past work, identity and self-worth” after the British Columbia Civil Liberties Association revoked an award because it believed she falsified her claims of Indigenous identity.Turpel-Lafond says in her most expansive remarks since questions about her heritage were raised last year that it’s “liberating” to be freed of honours. She says in an email she has “no emotional attachment to titles,” but she’s surprised that the association rescinded the 2020 Reg Robson Award without “basic fairness,” such as allowing her an opportunity to be heard. The former law professor and B.C. representative for children and youth, whose claim of Cree heritage was questioned by a CBC report last October, says “trial by media is rampant,” and it’s how “wrongful convictions and injustice” happen. The civil liberties association says in...Missing Indiana girl found in shed; 18 year-old taken into custody

TEXAS (KIAH) - In Texas, the stroke death rate for ages 35 and up is 78 per 100,000, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. And now, researchers may have found that your blood type may affect your risk of early stroke. The University of Maryland concluded those with type A blood are 12% more likely to have a stroke when they are under the age of 60 than other blood types.“The number of people with early strokes is rising. These people are more likely to die from the life-threatening event, and survivors potentially face decades with disability. Despite this, there is little research on the causes of early strokes,” said study co-principal investigator Steven J. Kittner, MD, MPH, Professor of Neurology at UMSOM.Researchers also discovered that those with type O blood were at a 12 percent lower risk of having an early stroke.According to a press release, the Maryland team conducted the study by performing a meta-analysis of 48 studies on genetics and i...Class 2A state boys hockey quarterfinal: John Stout lifts Minnetonka past Hill-Murray in OT
