Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 10:31:06 GMT

NEW YORK (AP) — The WNBA’s pledge to provide private planes for all postseason air travel has a few caveats, according to a memo sent to teams this week. The memo, obtained by The Associated Press on Wednesday night, outlined certain scenarios under which teams would have to fly commercially.WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert announced in April and repeated many times during the season that the league would provide charter flights for all postseason games where air travel was necessary. Last season, the league paid for charters for the WNBA Finals. The league memo specified that teams can’t take charter flights for multiple trips in between playoff rounds. That means a lower-seeded team that sweeps its best-of-three first-round series would have a choice: either charter home or to the site of the next round. If the team chose to charter home, it would have to fly commercially to the next site.Such a scenario isn’t extremely likely, but it’s possible. The league ...

DENVER (KDVR) — Federal officials could soon be easing restrictions on marijuana under new recommendations issued this week by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.HHS has recommended reclassifying marijuana from a Schedule I to a Schedule III substance, saying it has a moderate to low potential for dependence and a lower abuse potential. ‘Holler, Child’ profound story collection about Black lives

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 10:31:06 GMT

LaToya Watkins has surpassed the high bar set by her beautifully crushing debut novel, “Perish,” with a collection of short stories titled “Holler, Child.” Heavily rooted in west Texas where the author grew up, the 11 fictional pieces focus on Black lives — and the huge range of people and relationships within — to form a profound collection. In the namesake short story, which includes some of the most brutal scenes in the book, the bloodied face of the narrator’s son reminds her of the day she was raped and beaten — “Holler, Child” being what she commanded her 17-year-old self to do way back then, but couldn’t. Now, confronted with the possibility that her son may have raped someone, she has a chance to handle things differently. Its ending is completely unexpected — a battlefield of conflicting logic and emotion that’s hard to fathom, but also strangely sensical. While many of the pages are about mothers and wives, some are from a male perspective, like “Dog Person.” The narrator con...

With New York Fashion Week just around the corner, we’ll be taking a look at the big runway trends for spring soon enough. But for now, fall is coming up fast. And that’s reason enough to focus our attention on all the season’s spectacular accessories — bags, shoes, and scarves — that your fall wardrobe needs. Here are the must-haves of the oncoming season:A chunky heel bootie: It’s a perennial favorite—the classic piece of footwear that complements nearly every outfit, from dresses and denim to miniskirts and lace maxi skirts and even many cocktail dresses.
